eCrafting Up Some S’MORES!!!

 

The 4th of July is just 2 days away and here in the USA that means lots of fireworks, parades and parties!  This year we are going to a cookout and I was asked to bring supplies for S’mores…..yummy! Definitely one of my favorite desserts of summer!  I decided to take it up a notch for one big reason.  You see as a mom of a 7 year old and a 4 year old, I know full well that at parties, there is a tendency for the kids to try and get as many sweets as they can.  My 4 year old is particularly sneaky and mischievous so I really have to keep an eye on him.  Now some people might say, let the kids go crazy!  Here is the problem with that (and I’m sure other moms have experienced this) there comes a time when all that sugar results into what I call the “sugar tantrum”.  For those of you not familiar with this, this is when the child has had so much sugar and they have been running and playing like crazy.  They seem to have boundless amounts of energy and then all of a sudden….they bottom out.  In my opinion, this is the worst kind of tantrum because there is no reasoning with the child, there is no calming them down, no amount of discipline can dissuade it because they truly feel just awful!  The only cure for this tantrum is to rush them out of the party and get them to bed as quickly as possible while giving them enough water to flush their system, but not too much to cause night time accidents.  It is a tricky balance.  To make matters worse, if this tantrum happens at a party….well let’s just say it is embarrassing!  We are going to a party where there are other families with kids and I have talked to many of these moms who have had the same experience, so since I am in charge of the S’mores, I decided to make a package of S’more supplies for each child.  That way, hopefully we can control the sugar intake so that they can have some fun but not get themselves into a sugar high!  Don’t worry I am bringing extras of everything for the adults and then if a parent wants to give their child more, they can.

Here is what I did….first step was to use some bags to hold the supplies.  I used the Large Glassine Bags from Papertrey Ink because I had just enough of them left from a previous project and they were the perfect size.  Plus I love the frosted look of them.  If I didn’t have these already in my stash, I would have just done this with some sandwich bags. I filled each bag with enough graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate to make two S’mores which I think is a perfect amount for the kids. Next step was to do all my cuts.  I used THIS freebie file from SVG Cuts.  Using Make the Cut, I removed the pieces to make the face just to make it a little easier on me.  Using some eCraft Diecutable Cardstock and also some Core’dinations cardstock, I cut out all the pieces.  I also cut out some stars using Make the Cut’s basic shapes and created a long banner shape using their basic shapes again.  This banner is 10 inches long so that when scored in the middle, the fold was over the top of the bag. This provides just a little interest to the back of the bag. Using a little bit of adhesive to seal the bag shut, I also added the adhesive to the banner on each side of the fold.  Then I assembled the rest of the pieces and adhered that with a little dimensional adhesive.  Oh and that caption….I have to point this out because that caption is pretty small.  I love how the eCraft Diecutable Cardstock is made for cutting small words like this and then when I paired it with my Xyron Sticker Maker to adhere it….well let’s just say Easy Peasy! 

Even though there was a lot of cutting in making these, it really wasn’t so bad.  Remember that with the eCraft, you can load the paper in and hit cut.  No sticking the paper onto mats really is a big timesaver with these types of mass production crafts.
